Explore beneath the city streets with a guided tour of the medieval Underground Passages originally fresh water channels for the whole city and now one of Exter's top tourist attractions.

With its colourful past, Exeter has plenty of historic places of interest to visit such as the Tudor monastery ruins of St Nicholas Priory in Mint Lane, the medieval Guildhall, the ruins of Rougemont Norman Castle and the Custom House in the Quays. You can also visit England's third oldest synagogue, which dates back to 1763. The city's Royal Albert Memorial Museum hosts excellent permanent collections that won the title of Museum of the Year in 2012. The Spacex is home to modern art collections, and the Media Centre and Phoenix house displays from important local and international artists.

Take a five and a half mile walk or cycle ride along the River Exe Estuary, starting at Exeter Quay and finishing at Turf Lock, to stretch the legs and get away from it all. The Quay area is perfect for rest and relaxation for all the family, with a multitude of eateries, visitor centres and activities that will entrance and enchant even the most inquisitive of minds. You can also visit Northernhay Victorian Gardens for some inner-city greenery. For theatre, try the Northcott Theatre with its annual open-air Shakespeare performances located within the university grounds, or the Barnfield Theatre
